A woodland puppy photoshoot in Henley-on-Thames
A woodland puppy photoshoot in Henley-on-Thames. When I was asked to photograph a golden working cocker spaniel that was just a few months old, I had to pinch myself at my luck. For anyone that knows me, I go absolutely soppy for spaniel puppies!
Monty bounded into my living room all fluffy ears, big eyes and puppy kisses, ready for his photoshoot. Cue a lot of fussing from me! Together with his gorgeous auburn-haired mummy, Keli, we set off to the woods on a little adventure in search of some snowdrops, sticks and good sniffs.
I like to time my photoshoots as the sun dips in the sky, to get that beautiful soft lighting, and when we arrived at the woods we had timed it perfectly. Monty was a bundle of puppy energy dashing between the trees. However with some use of the magic dog word, ‘what’s this?’ and the rustle of a treat bag, he was soon sitting pretty in a perfect clump of snowdrops. A little whistle and he cocked his head in that oh-so-adorable way for the camera. I was literally melting with soppiness behind the camera.
We then let Monty explore to his heart’s content, as he sniffed under logs, found the best sticks in the wood, and chewed a bit of everything just in case it was tasty. Occasionally Keli would scoop a wriggly Monty up, only to be covered in kisses before he bombed off down the woodland path again. The soft winter woodland colours and these auburn beauties were a dream to photograph.
Last stop was a little haystack set at the back of the wood. Monty’s first haystack. Keli and I could not stop laughing as he had a mad puppy five minutes racing around in circles on the hay with excitement. Needless to say, after his photoshoot Monty spent the rest of the afternoon snoozing in front of the woodburner.
If you’d be interested in booking a photoshoot of your puppy with me before they grow up too quickly, I’d love to hear from you. Seriously, any excuse to photograph puppies!
