Jersey photographer - top 5 reasons to have your newborn photoshoot at home
Home, where it all begins. Where your life as a new family unfolds, and where so many memories will be made in these walls. I love newborn photography in it’s purest, simplest and most meaningful form - in your home. I think babies are beautiful just as nature intended them, without the need for props, poses and fancy backdrops, and in the environment where you, and they, feel most cosy and snug. My newborn at home sessions are relaxed and free flowing; the focus is very much on simplicity, connection and storytelling.
I have listed my top 5 reasons why I love newborn photoshoots at home:
1) Easy, cosy and relaxed
Let me come to you in the comfort of your home in Jersey. No need to leave the house, especially when you are adjusting to your new little night owl and recovering from birth. I remember spending most of the first week after having my children in a dressing gown! It’s nice to keep things simple and stress-free. You’ll have everything you need at hand too - nappies, muslins, snacks, and extra wardrobe changes. You don’t need to have a big, beautiful, tidy house to get magical images - I can work wonders with tiny pockets of light in little corners of your home.
2) Siblings & pets
Being at home means it’s super easy to include siblings and family pets in the photographs. When at home a newly promoted big brother or sister is happy pottering around in their familiar environment; they can come and go, take breaks, play with their toys - all in their own time and in a relaxed manner. This makes it perfect for taking candid photographs of them. And if the family dog or cat wants to make an appearance, then I’ll be delighted!
3) Pure, baby-led and all the feels
You and your baby’s happiness is my main focus during your photoshoot. As a mother of three myself, I will take great care of you during your photoshoot and will notice all the little details you won’t want to forget. My sessions will follow your baby’s lead, and tell your everyday story. Whether they want to sleep, look around them, have a feed, need changing, or want a cuddle. A happy baby will mean relaxed and natural photographs.
My sessions are very un-posed and focus on what it feels like to have a newborn, rather than what it looks like. I will focus on capturing the emotional connection between your new baby and family. It is so incredibly beautiful!
4) Homely & unique
With your home in Jersey as the backdrop, the images will be unique. This is their first home, and someday you might move. We can capture the little details in the nursery that you have decorated, the blanket that grandma knitted, the handmade mobile over their cot. Nothing can be more meaningful than photographing you all in the place that is the very fabric of you.
5) A chance to head outdoors
Most of my newborn at home clients also choose to have a few photographs outdoors. This can be in your garden or at a nearby outdoor place you love. This adds gorgeous variety to your gallery, through different lighting and colours.
With huge thanks to the Teixeira family for letting me share some of my favourite images from their session in this blog.
If you would like to book a cosy newborn session, I would love to hear from you. To capture your baby at their tiniest and sleepiest, it’s best to photograph your baby in the first 5 -10 days. I ask parents to book with me before their baby is due, and I hold two tentative dates around your due date. However, if you’re happy with more awake, interactive images of your baby, a session can take place anytime in the first 3 months.
